Acquisition of the leading MEP provider will unlock new growth opportunities for Legence throughout Florida’s high-growth coastal areas, and bring best-in-class sustainability solutions to the market
Legence, a Blackstone company and the first global Energy Transition Accelerator™, today announced the acquisition of OCI Associates (OCI), one of the largest Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) consulting engineering and Commissioning firms in Florida. Headquartered in Orlando, OCI is a coastal leader in MEP consulting and associated services including lighting design, fire protection, and project management, and has designed new construction and significant building improvements for a variety of sectors, including education and government for over 30 years.
Legence’s latest strategic expansion reflects the growing prominence of Florida’s commercial real estate market on the national stage and its pivotal role in the energy transition. The move will enable the company to expand its project pipeline while delivering greater value opportunities for partners in a widening geographic envelope. In particular, OCI will support Legence’s leadership in providing end-to-end and customizable solutions for the critically important MUSH (municipalities, universities, schools, and hospitals) market.
"Our team is thrilled to welcome OCI Associates into Legence’s portfolio of companies," said Jeff Sprau, CEO of Legence. “Joining the strengths and talents of our two organizations is a major milestone and will allow us to significantly build on our capacity to serve Florida’s coastal market — a fast-growing region that needs resilient infrastructure as building owners and investors increasingly focus on climate considerations. With a shared, industry-leading commitment to operational excellence and a laser focus on advancing high-performance buildings, OCI was a natural MEP partner of choice and will play a critical role in supporting Legence’s mission to decarbonize buildings across sectors including real estate, healthcare, and education.”
OCI’s established leadership as the third largest MEP firm in Florida enables Legence to meet today’s challenges. For example, the city of Orlando has committed to reducing municipal greenhouse gas emissions by 50% from 2010 levels by 2024, with greater building efficiency a core part of the public commitment. OCI’s ongoing work to advance that goal over the last several years will be amplified by the new suite of expertise available through Legence.
“OCI’s mission has always been about building better spaces that lower costs and empower the people who need them, and joining the Legence team will only increase our impact. Together, we will drive new opportunities for emissions reductions, helping ensure that Florida’s built environment is one of the safest, healthiest, and most sustainable in the country. Today is a good day,” said Amir Kazeminia, President of OCI Associates.
AEC Advisors acted as the financial advisor to OCI Associates.
