Quality Control & Safety Manager (Fabrication & Field Support)
About the Role
The Quality Control & Safety Manager is responsible for leading jobsite and fabrication shop safety practices and executing quality control processes that ensure safe operations and first-pass quality. This role partners closely with Fabrication, Field Operations, and BIM/VDC teams to drive consistent execution from material receipt through installation, startup, and turnover. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize and deliver with urgency in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Compliance
· Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations and internal company standards.
· Promote a safety-conscious work environment across the fabrication shop and supported project sites.
· Work closely with the Director of Safety, Fabrication leadership, Project Managers, and Foremen to ensure safe work practices and proactive risk management.
· Perform documented safety inspections (shop and jobsite), track findings, and drive timely corrective actions.
· Develop, implement, and maintain safety plans, policies, procedures, and training programs aligned to company expectations and project needs.
· Deliver safety training per the Safety Training Matrix; maintain training documentation and required records.
· Organize and coordinate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety communications.
· Investigate incidents and near-misses, complete root-cause analysis, and implement corrective/preventive actions; maintain statistical safety data.
· Lead the company safety committee, facilitate meetings, and ensure follow-through on action items.
· Partner with external safety consultants to ensure inspections occur regularly and findings are closed out.
· Support Purchasing with selection and procurement of safety equipment and supplies.
· Identify and resolve safety issues before they escalate into major problems.
Quality Control Execution (Fabrication & Installation)
· Execute planned inspection and test activities from material receiving through fabrication and field installation, including (as applicable):
o receiving inspection and material verification
o fit-up and dimensional checks
o supports/hangers verification
o cleanliness/flush checks
o pressure/leak testing
o insulation/labeling verification
o startup readiness and turnover completion
· Conduct shop and field walkdowns, system verification, and readiness assessments for HVAC, plumbing, and process/utility systems.
· Apply applicable codes and standards as required by project scope (e.g., IMC/IPC, SMACNA, and applicable AWS/ASME requirements such as B31/Section IX).
· Maintain quality documentation and traceability, including RFIs, submittals, inspection logs, test reports, redlines/as-builts, and QA/QC turnover packages.
· Ensure material and component traceability from model to shop to field and support accurate closeout documentation.
· Identify nonconformances, document NCRs, support root-cause analysis and CAPA activities, and drive timely closure in quality tracking systems.
· Coordinate daily with Fabrication, Field, and BIM/VDC teams on spool releases, checklists, quality gates/hold points, and handoffs to support schedule and first-pass quality.
· Support interactions with clients, vendors, general contractors, third-party inspectors, and AHJs during inspections and audits; provide professional documentation and responses.

· Timely closure of safety and quality findings and consistent compliance with training and inspection requirements.
· Strong partnership with Fabrication, Field, and BIM/VDC teams resulting in smooth handoffs and on-time turnover packages.
Required Qualifications
· 3–5 years of construction and/or fabrication experience, preferably in mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, process/utility) environments.
· OSHA 500 Authorized Instructor (required) or ability to obtain within an agreed timeframe.
· Demonstrated experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, and implementing corrective actions.
· Hands-on experience with quality inspections/testing and maintaining QA/QC documentation.
· Working knowledge of applicable mechanical and fabrication codes/standards (IMC/IPC, SMACNA; AWS/ASME elements as required by project scope).
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and comfort using safety and/or quality tracking software.
· Valid driver’s license and driving record meeting company requirements.
· Ability to successfully pass required pre-employment drug, alcohol, physical, and background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience supporting both fabrication shops and active project sites.
· Experience with quality databases, document control systems, and turnover package development.
· Mechanically inclined with ability to assist with basic equipment maintenance coordination/triage.
