Faheem Hunarwar’s career spans continents, cultures, and an extraordinary chapter of public service. Today, he supports teams across the company while bringing a global perspective, creative spirit, and deep commitment to building community. Read on for Faheem’s inspiring story in our latest employee spotlight.

1. Can you walk us through your career journey and what ultimately led you to your current role as Office Coordinator at RE Tech Advisors?

I started my career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan in 2003 and later served in a diplomatic mission in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Those early roles exposed me to high-level coordination, fast-moving environments, and cross-cultural collaboration. That role shaped so much of who I am today – managing communications, supporting cultural programs, producing multilingual content, and being the go-to person for anything technical. It taught me discipline, diplomacy, creativity, and a whole lot of patience.

So, when I transitioned to life in the United States, joining RE Tech Advisors felt like a natural fit. My background in administration, media, and digital content blended perfectly with what the team needed. Today, I support both RE Tech Advisors and the Legence marketing team – managing office operations, building and maintaining SharePoint sites, updating websites, creating design materials, and helping teams stay organized and supported. It’s a mixed role, but I thrive in that variety.

2. How do you approach managing such a wide range of responsibilities?

I’ve learned to be adaptable and intentional with my time. My background gave me strong organizational instincts, but curiosity pushed me into the creative and technical space. I enjoy moving between structure and creativity – whether that means streamlining internal workflows or jumping into a website update. When you genuinely enjoy the work, managing different responsibilities feels less like juggling and more like building something cohesive.

3. Having lived and worked in several countries, your story reflects incredible resilience and adaptability. Which part of that journey has influenced you the most in your career or personal outlook?

Living abroad taught me to observe and understand my environment before acting. My tenure serving as a foreign civil servant at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Ashgabat had the most significant influence on me, particularly working closely with four Ambassadors and contributing to both high-level diplomatic engagements and the mission’s everyday operations. That experience shaped how I view leadership and collaboration. It reinforced the importance of analyzing country context, understanding people, and appreciating country culture before trying to contribute or create meaningful change.

4. With your family spread across multiple countries, what traditions or rituals keep you all connected, no matter the distance?

Staying grounded is important to me, especially because my family is scattered across multiple countries. My wife and I live on different continents, and the rest of my family is spread even farther. So, we’ve had to become intentional about connection. Little rituals keep us close: video calls that turn into long conversations, sharing meals over the phone, celebrating holidays from our respective time zones, and the simple warmth of saying good morning and good night across continents. We’ve embraced a mix of traditions from all the places we call home – celebrating Eid, Nowruz, New Year, Thanksgiving, and Easter together in our own ways. Those shared moments, even across time zones, help us stay grounded and connected despite the distance.

5. Outside of work, what activities or hobbies help you unwind or inspire your creativity?

Writing is where I slow down and reconnect. Reading and writing have always been a part of my life, and over time, that passion has evolved into publishing four books on Persian poetry and general knowledge, as well as co-authoring another. I also enjoy collaborating with other writers and poets – helping them edit, refine, and bring their work to print is something I find deeply fulfilling. Outside of work, creativity is my recharge, and I extend that passion through podcasts focused on classical and oriental philosophy and poetry that I run, which lets me bring timeless voices and ideas into modern conversations. It’s a passion project that fuels me.

And then there’s cycling. I love getting out on my bike whenever I can. There’s something about long rides, quiet roads, soft music, and open space that helps me reset and find clarity. It’s become one of my favorite ways to stay active and inspired.
