Position Overview
VarcoMac is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Project Manager to lead complex electrical construction projects within our Commercial and Healthcare Division. Reporting to the Electrical Division Manager, this senior-level role is responsible for the leadership, estimation, planning, execution, financial performance, and successful delivery of large-scale electrical construction projects.

The Senior Project Manager serves as a trusted advisor to clients, internal leadership, field operations teams, subcontractors, and design partners throughout all phases of project delivery. This position requires extensive expertise in healthcare electrical construction, strong business acumen, and the ability to manage multiple high-value projects while ensuring operational excellence, client satisfaction, safety compliance, and profitability.

This role also provides mentorship to project management staff and contributes to the continued growth and success of VarcoMac's electrical construction operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project & Financial Leadership
    • Lead assigned phases of project delivery, preconstruction planning, project setup, execution, commissioning, claims, claims management and closeout.
    • Manage complex healthcare and commercial electrical construction projects.
    • Maintain accountability for project profitability, budget management, forecasting, cost controls, and risk mitigation as assigned.
    • Manage and/or support progress billings, change orders, contract administration, and payment processes.
    • Develop project schedules and monitor project performance to ensure milestones and deliverables are achieved. Provide contractual notice as required to preserve contractual rights and claims.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance project delivery, efficiency, and client satisfaction.
  • Technical & Operational Execution
    • Conduct site assessments, inspections, and project reviews to identify opportunities, risks, and corrective actions.
    • Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout project execution.
    • Evaluate and resolve complex technical, operational, and construction challenges.
    • Evaluate schedules for status and notice requirements.
  • Project & Cross-Discipline Coordination
    • Coordinate activities across project teams, including field operations, engineering partners, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors.
    • Manage subcontractor selection, contract administration, performance monitoring, and project integration.
    • Ensure proper allocation of labor, materials, equipment, and other project resources.
    • Lead project meetings and facilitate communication among all stakeholders.
  • Documentation & Communication
    • Prepare and review project documentation, contracts, schedules, budgets, reports, and client deliverables.
    • Maintain accurate project records and financial tracking systems.
    • Communicate project status, risks, and performance metrics to clients and company leadership.
    • Support internal reporting processes and project audits as required.
  • Leadership & Resource Management
    • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and project support staff.
    • Foster a culture focused on accountability, collaboration, safety, and operational excellence.
    • Support workforce planning and resource allocation to meet project demands.
    • Promote and maintain a safe, injury-free work environment aligned with company and regulatory requirements.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Education & Credentials
    • Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent electrical construction experience required.
    • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related discipline preferred.
    • Valid driver's license required.
    • Professional certifications related to construction management, project management, or electrical systems are a plus.
  • Experience
    • 10+ years of progressive experience in electrical construction project management.
    • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale healthcare electrical construction projects is required.
    • Proven success managing multiple projects simultaneously with responsibility for budget, schedule, quality, and client satisfaction.
    • Experience overseeing design-build electrical projects and multidisciplinary construction teams.
    • Strong background in estimating, contract administration, financial management, and risk management.
  • Technical & Professional Skills
    • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, healthcare facility requirements, NEC standards, and applicable codes.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and electronic estimating software.
    • Experience using cost estimating and project management platforms.
    • CAD software experience preferred.
    • Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage project forecasting and profitability.
    • Exceptional leadership, negotiation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, build client relationships, and drive successful project outcomes.

Additional Notes

  • Experience working on healthcare electrical construction projects is required.
  • Travel to project sites throughout the region may be required.
  • Sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed to support project delivery and business objectives.
  • Salary Range: $140,000 - $175,000 (This role is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus. Bonus eligibility and payout are determined by role, individual performance, and company performance and are not guaranteed.)
