Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant will be a key member of the IMD accounting team, responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting and general accounting activities. We are looking for a detail-oriented professional with the ability to multi-task across a broad scope of accounting functions — from month-end close and WIP reporting to financial analysis and audit support. This role works closely with the Controller, project managers, and business leadership to ensure financial data is accurate, complete, and decision-ready.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

General Ledger & Month-End Close

    Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.

    Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, and reserve analysis.

    Perform bank reconciliations and reconcile monthly vendor statements to the general ledger.

    Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules.

    Complete monthly and year-end financial close activities, including balance sheet account reconciliations and company transactions.

 

WIP & Project Accounting

    Assist in the WIP monthly reporting process, including WIP schedules for revenue recognition using the percentage of completion method.

    Work closely with project managers to ensure continuous update of economic forecasts across the project portfolio.

    Analyze job cost reports and ensure adequate cost accumulation on projects.

    Prepare monthly reports for collections, billings, and work orders.

    Participate in monthly collection meetings.

    Prepare and file project tax exemption documents.

 

Financial Analysis & Reporting

    Prepare account analysis schedules including rollforward, variance, and trend analysis to confirm accuracy of account balances.

    Perform monthly analysis of balance sheet, income statement, labor, utilization, and PTO.

    Compare results to forecast, budget, and prior periods; investigate significant or unusual variances and determine appropriate adjustments.

    Create and provide monthly reporting to business leaders, including schedules and commentary on operating results and variances.

    Conduct in-depth analysis of financial and operational data to identify opportunities to improve EBITDA.

    Perform ad hoc requests from management and corporate.

 

Audit & Compliance

    Assist with annual audit preparations and provide support for year-end financial audits, including audit schedule preparation and addressing auditor inquiries.

    Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance.

    Evaluate the design and effectiveness of internal controls; identify non-compliance and control deficiencies.

    Assess internal controls including risk assessments.

    Assist in the implementation of new accounting policies and standards; monitor adherence to existing policies.

    Ensure regulatory licensing is maintained.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

    Work effectively with the accounting team, Controller, project managers, and business leadership.

    Support AP, AR, billing, and PO processes as needed.

    Assist in the annual budget process.

    Assist in system conversions and process improvement initiatives.

    Participate in or lead various projects and tasks based on business needs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. CPA preferred.

    Minimum 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in public or corporate accounting. Construction industry experience strongly preferred.

    Strong knowledge of US GAAP, accounting regulations, and procedures.

    Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables; proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

    Experience with ERP/accounting systems; experience with construction-specific platforms a plus.

    Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

    Excellent written and oral communication skills.

    Ability to work effectively with limited supervision in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

    CCIFP certification a plus.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES

   Hourly Range: $45.67 - $55.29/hr (depending on experience). This role is also eligible for an annual performance‑based bonus. Bonus eligibility and payout are determined by role, individual performance, and company performance, and are not guaranteed.
