MEP Project Manager

CMTA (formerly AMA Group), a Legence company
CMTA is one of the fastest-growing engineering firms in the U.S., known for sustainable, high-performance building systems and complex MEP/FP delivery. Through AMA’s design expertise in media, broadcast, and production facilities—and CMTA’s national portfolio in education, healthcare, and zero-energy projects—we pair deep technical craft with an innovative, collaborative culture that accelerates careers.

CMTA, formerly known as AMA Group, is seeking an experienced MEP Project Manager for our New York City and New Jersey offices. We're looking for a construction Project Manager with a strong general contracting background that has the ability and drive to hone their skills with the proper mentorship to be a MEP Project Manager, comfortable running union and non-union work to join our Construction Management team.

This role expands our Project Management Department to support a growing client list that includes NBC Universal, Disney, NBA, NBC Sports, and A+E Networks. You'll serve as the primary point of contact for client representatives and represent CMTA in ensuring the highest levels of project execution.

Our project portfolio spans corporate interiors, base building MEP upgrades, broadcast and production facilities, critical infrastructure, and a range of interior alteration and renovation work. Projects run across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Washington DC, Florida, and California, so some out-of-state travel may be required.

Who We Are:

CMTA, formerly known as AMA Group, is a full-service construction management company established in 2004. We've completed over 1,000 projects for clients across the corporate, financial, media, educational, and residential sectors.

In 2024, AMA Group was acquired by Legence, a Blackstone portfolio company with 10,000+ employees offering a multifaceted approach to design and construction. The acquisition expanded our national reach and aligned us with CMTA, a 2,000-person design firm with 50 offices across the United States.

What You'll Do:

Project Leadership

•             Lead 4–5 concurrent projects of varying size and scope

•             Review and maintain command of all project drawings and specification books

•             Serve as primary point of contact for client representatives throughout the project lifecycle

•             Attend internal kickoff meetings with Estimating to ensure clean handoff — reviewing awarded subcontractor scopes, client allowances, proposal notes and clarifications, and contract stipulations

Project Setup & Documentation

•             Partner with the Project Superintendent to establish, in Procore:

o            Submittal list

o            Project directory

o            Project schedule and logistics plans

o            RFI log

o            Permit and third-party inspection list

o            Site-specific safety documents

•             Level of involvement in producing these documents will vary by project depending on the Superintendent's experience

•             Review specifications and submittals for pre-purchased long-lead equipment prior to release for fabrication

Meetings & Communication

•             Lead weekly client meetings — build the agenda for the first meeting and produce meeting minutes in Procore thereafter, with support from the Project Superintendent

•             Establish weekly subcontractor meetings at project onset; work with the Superintendent on agendas and documentation

Safety

•             Maintain a working knowledge of the company Safety Manual and companywide site safety policies

•             Perform internal site safety audits as needed — confirming required OSHA signage is posted, site-specific safety orientations are collected, and training records and weekly subcontractor toolbox talks are documented Field & Preconstruction Support

•             Coordinate project Laborer daily schedules with Construction Superintendents and oversee entry of Laborer hours for weekly payroll

•             Participate on the preconstruction team alongside the design team, CMTA's in-house engineering group, and clients to develop project scope, schedule, and logistics

•             Provide General Requirements and Conditions information to Estimating on prospective projects to establish costs for supervision, site cleanup, trash removal, and similar line items

•             Expand the company's existing union and non-union subcontractor bid lists

•             Develop Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for critical shutdowns, switchovers, or phased occupancy work — including prerequisite tasks, timeline, and step-by-step execution detail Cost & Change Management

•             Lead change order management: work with the Superintendent to collect subcontractor costs, build change orders in Procore, review with the Project Executive, issue to the client, and track approval status

•             Liaise with Accounting to ensure all client and subcontractor change order costs are entered in Sage

•             Attend monthly project reviews with Accounting to confirm projects remain on budget

•             Provide input into monthly client and subcontractor AR/AP to ensure amounts reflect current project status

•             Resolve subcontractor scope disputes during construction

Closeout

•             Oversee project closeout including completion of design professional punch lists, permits, and third-party inspections

What You Bring:

Education

•             Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field Experience
