The Plumbing & Pipefitting Detailer position is a Full-Time, in-person position located in our San Diego, CA Office. This role will be responsible for creating accurate 3D models and dimensioned shop drawings for plumbing and process piping systems using Autodesk software. You will collaborate closely with project managers, field crews, and neighboring trades to identify layout conflicts and ensure all designs are fully constructible. Additionally, this position requires active Union 230 Membership to successfully support our team in streamlining the transition from virtual modeling to physical installation.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret complex architectural drawings, structural plans, mechanical engineering specifications, and contract documents. Proven ability to effectively communicate technical modeling data and installation requirements to project managers, shop foremen, and field crews. Must be capable of presenting layout updates and clash detection findings clearly in multidisciplinary trade coordination meetings.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced geometric and algebraic concepts to calculate precise piping slopes, centerlines, rolling offsets, and spatial clearances. Proven ability to verify dimensional accuracy, calculate material take-offs, and interpret level, elevation, and coordinate data from 3D models and field measurements.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply logical thinking and spatial reasoning to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form. Proven ability to identify and resolve multi-variable spatial conflicts and design discrepancies, such as reconciling conflicting layout data between contract drawings, architectural constraints, and structural limitations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods at a BIM workstation; use hands and fingers to operate a mouse, keyboard, or tracking devices for precise 3D modeling. The role requires the consistent ability to communicate verbally and in writing with internal teams, subcontractors, and field personnel. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and color vision for the purpose of auditing detailed 3D models, clash reports, and technical schematics.
