Position Overview
Bowers is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to oversee the strategic and day-to-day management of the company's fleet operations. This position is responsible for approximately 263 light-duty vehicles and several dozen CDL-class vehicles serving operations throughout the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. region.

The Fleet Manager will lead fleet acquisition, driver qualification, compliance, telematics, maintenance coordination, and asset lifecycle management while serving as the primary point of accountability for fleet performance, safety, and cost control. This role partners closely with Operations, Safety, Human Resources, Payroll, and executive leadership to support organizational objectives and maintain an efficient fleet program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fleet Operations & Lifecycle Management
  • Manage vehicle acquisition, assignment, utilization, replacement, and disposal activities
  • Monitor fleet performance, lifecycle costs, and asset utilization
  • Develop fleet strategies that support operational needs and budget objectives
  • Driver Compliance & Safety
  • Administer driver authorization and qualification programs, including CDL oversight and MVR monitoring
  • Ensure compliance with Company Auto Policy, DOT, FMCSA, and applicable state regulations
  • Partner with Safety to address driver performance trends and policy enforcement
  • Telematics, Maintenance & Vendor Management
  • Manage telematics programs, including reporting, driver analytics, and performance monitoring
  • Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repairs with Bowers Automotive and external vendors
  • Monitor maintenance costs, service quality, and vendor performance
  • Program Administration & Reporting
  • Oversee fuel card, toll pass, and vehicle allowance programs
  • Develop and manage fleet operating and capital budgets
  • Prepare reports and recommendations regarding fleet performance, safety, replacement planning, and cost optimization

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Education & Credentials
    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Transportation, Supply Chain, Automotive Technology, or a related field preferred
    • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record required
    • Fleet-related certifications (e.g., CAFM) preferred
  • Experience
    • 5+ years of fleet management experience
    • Experience managing mixed fleets of light-duty and commercial vehicles
    • Experience with telematics platforms, MVR monitoring, vendor management, and fleet budgeting
    • Experience in construction, MEP, utility, or other DOT-regulated environments preferred
  • Technical & Professional Skills
    • Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and fleet compliance requirements
    • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and fleet management systems
    • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work independently and drive continuous process improvement

Additional Notes

  • Full-time, exempt position based in Beltsville, MD
  • Regional travel throughout the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area is required
  • Occasional after-hours support may be required for fleet-related emergencies
  • Salary range: $90,000–$110,000, plus comprehensive benefits
