Construction Manager (Airport)

Lead airport construction projects, ensure safety and seamless operations, and manage contractor performance in a dynamic, onsite environment.

CONSTRUCTION MANAGER (AIRPORT)

Employment Type: Full-time – Contract (2-3 years)

 

Salary: $130,000 to $172,000 (dependent on experience)

Level: Mid, Senior

Location: Santa Ana, CA

Schedule: Onsite Mon-Fri

 

We are seeking experienced Construction Managers to support delivery of airport capital improvement projects at John Wayne Airport. These roles support projects across airfield pavements, utilities, security systems, terminal support infrastructure, parking facilities, and passenger-processing systems, ensuring safe execution while maintaining uninterrupted airport operations. The Construction Manager acts as the Owner’s representative in coordinating construction activities, monitoring contractor performance, and integrating project delivery with airport operational requirements.

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Monitor contractor construction activities for compliance with approved plans, specifications, and sequencing requirements
  • Verify adherence to safety, security, and operational constraints within active airport environments
  • Coordinate inspection activities with Airport staff and regulatory stakeholders
  • Support commissioning, turnover, and project closeout processes
  • Integrate construction activities with 24/7 airport operations
  • Coordinate staging, phasing, escorts, and access restrictions in secure areas
  • Manage Location Shutdown Requests (LSRs) and operational notifications
  • Minimize impacts to airlines, tenants, passengers, and airport circulation systems
  • Track contractor progress against milestone schedules
  • Review payment applications and change requests
  • Identify risks affecting delivery timelines
  • Support evaluation of contractor claims and field directives
  • Monitor compliance with FAA, TSA, OSHA, and airport construction safety requirements
  • Ensure adherence to airfield operational safety procedures
  • Promote proactive risk mitigation in constrained operational environments
  • Track RFIs, submittals, and change orders
  • Participate in coordination meetings with designers, contractors, and Airport stakeholders
  • Prepare construction status reports for leadership teams

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience in construction project management
  • 10+ years of construction management experience with at least 3+ years on airport projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline
  • Experience with various project delivery methods – CMAR, D-B-B, Design Build, Progressive Design-Build
  • Experience working on in active operational facilities
  • Familiarity with contract administration and field coordination procedures
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Familiarity with PM Web, bluebeam software

 

Additional Preferred Credentials

  • CCM, PMP, LEED, PE, or AAAE certification
  • Experience coordinating work within secure AOA environments
  • Familiarity with FAA Advisory Circular construction requirements
