VarcoMac Safety Officer
(100% field work)
VarcoMac’s Safety team is in an immediate need of a Safety Officer. This position provides advice and guidance to company management as well as field employees in keeping the company compliant. The ultimate goal of the Safety Department is to create a zero-injury working environment. This is done by creating an appropriate level of knowledge, awareness, and preparedness throughout the entire company regarding effective safety practices and balancing overall associated costs.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare and modify documents including presentations, reports, drafts, memos, and emails
• Creation of and maintaining of spreadsheets - various projects in Microsoft Excel
• May require travel to various job sites throughout the Southern Maryland, DC, Northern Virginia
• Assist with conducting accident/incident investigations and prepare to correlate documentation
• Assist project management in conducting safety orientations and onboarding of union employees
• Post and keep current all required safety documents and literature
• Perform site safety inspections to document deficiencies, leading and lagging indicators
• Provide administrative support to management
Qualifications:
• 1 - 3 years in construction safety experience desired
• 2 or 4-year college degree in occupational health and safety discipline preferred
• Experience with union workforce preferred but not required
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate stop work action
• A clear understanding of the Company mission and values
• Ability to lift 30lbs, walk 4-6 flights of stairs daily and walk continually for 60 minutes
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
